My name is Martin and this is my story. I travel because it is fun and a great way to continue self-education which enriches the worldview and opens my eyes to unnoticeable things, both in the distant countries and the closest ones. Let's get to know other cultures but let's also respect and defend our own.

A few words from the author

Whilst travelling from the Christian remains of Constantinople and the ancient sands of Persia, through the Himalayas, the Great Wall of China and the dense jungles of Borneo, I realized that the world must have its order. Therefore despite my beautiful adventures and experiences I always remembered which culture I myself belonged to, and I also appreciated the beauty and values of our beautiful - White Christian civilization.

Travel reports are articles about trips to Asia. Each article is about a different country  or part of a country in a given year. There are plans on how to organize trips and practical information on how to travel in specific Asian countries. I think that these articles would be useful to  both experienced travelers and beginners.

Expedition to Sri Lanka 2008

By: Martin Malik
Generally, people are nice but in Sri Lanka I feel like a walking pound sterling because every conversation comes down to money. Although I have already been to many countries I've never met people who would be so hungry for money. In addition, Sri Lankans are very curious and ask a lot of personal questions.

Visa trip to Burma 2011

By: Martin Malik
Visa trips are an old and a proven way of extending your stay in Thailand. If we happen to be in central or southern Thailand, then the most popular countries are Laos and Malaysia. However, when we are in the north, in the area of the Golden Triangle and our Thai visa comes to an end, then a reliable country is Burma.

Expedition to Uzbekistan 2010

By: Martin Malik
The undisputed sensation of Uzbekistan are the three magnificent shows of Timuri architecture: Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. It is also a journey through the Kyzyl-Kum desert to Nukus and Moynaq where one can experience the tragedy of the Aral Sea and see the rusty fishing boats in the desert.

Expedition to Tajikistan 2010

By: Martin Malik
The Pamir Highway is 728 km long and it's the second highest route in the world, after the Karakoram Hwy. This route, also known as M41 was built by Soviet military engineers in 1931-1934 to facilitate the transport of troops and weapons into the very remote outpost of the Russian Empire. The Pamir Highway is a serious challenge.

Return to the Labuan island

By: Martin Malik
Despite its location, Labuan is neither part of Sabah nor Sarawak. Labuan is a federal territory administered directly by the government in Kuala Lumpur, but located off the coast of Borneo, near the state of Sarawak and Brunei. Labuan Island, which is a duty-free zone, has very favorable economic conditions and transport routes. My favourite place was the Bird Park with its crowned cranes.

Bangkok travel guide

By: Martin Malik
Bangkok is the most-visited city in Southeast Asia and most flights touch down over there too. For many travellers, including me, Bangkok is also the most popular base for trips to the neighbouring countries in the region.

Expedition to Laos 2011

By: Martin Malik
A cruise on the Mekong river is a very popular tourist attraction in Laos, which is done by most tourists. There are two ways to do it: by a slow boat or a fast boat. When I was there in 2004 I travelled by a fast boat and that's why in 2011 for only 950 bhat including transport to the port I had a relaxing cruise on the Mekong. It lasted two days with a night stop-over in the village of Pak Beng. The whole trip guarantees a very peaceful and a relaxing experience.

Expedition to Burma (Myanmar) 2011

By: Martin Malik
Inle Lake is one of the most visited places in Burma. In the same lake there is also an area full of temples and huts on posts where there are factories of silver, cigars and many others. Inle is the area where I travelled on a boat among vegetable fields, to reach remote villages. Inle is also a great way to observe how closely people are connected to the lake.

Trip to Labuan island 2012

By: Martin Malik
Labuan is made up of six other very small islands and lies near the state of Sabah and the Sultanate of Brunei. Despite its location Labuan is not a part of Sabah nor Sarawak. Labuan is a federal territory administered directly by the government in Kuala Lumpur, even though it is located off the coast of Borneo. Labuan Island, which is a free zone has a very favorable economy and transport connections.

Central Thailand 2011

By: Martin Malik
Central Thailand is primarily about history but also with a significant addition of natural beauty. In a short amount of time one can admire the ancient capitals of ancient Siam, learn about the fate of European slaves building a bridge over the River Kwai, ride elephants and try rafting.

Trip to Thailand 2011

By: Martin Malik
My trip around Thailand was so long and I saw so many places in all parts of that beautiful country that I decided to divide my travel journals into four separate chapters. That way my reports are divided into separate geographic regions of Thailand.

The Ancient Cities of Thailand 2011

By: Martin Malik
Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 by King U Thong at the intersection of three rivers (Mae Nam Lopburi, Chao Phraya and Pa Sak), making this ancient city located on the island. Strategically it was a great solution because rivers constituted a natural barrier against attacks on the city. Unfortunately, under the pressure of the Burmese army, Ayutthaya fell in 1767 and the Siam began to rebuild its power near today's Bangkok.

Trip to the Sultanate of Brunei 2012

By: Martin Malik
Brunei has a lot more to offer than mosques with golden domes. For those who have more time, I recommend a trip to the enclave of Brunei called Temburong, where there are Ulu Temburong National Park and the Peradayan Nature Reserve. There tourists can see a clean tropical forest or meet proboscis monkeys.

Expedition to West Malaysia 2012

By: Martin Malik
Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and the largest metropolis in the country with a population of about 1.5 million people. This is a city where modernity meets the culture of Malayas, China and India as well as the United Kingdom. KL as it is commonly known, houses famous landmarks such as Petronas Towers and Menara KL Tower. Kuala Lumpur is also a city of good cuisine and beautiful nature.

Northern Thailand 2011

By: Martin Malik
Northern Thailand is another picturesque region of Thailand, located in the mountains, among rice terraces, banana trees and waterfalls. This region offers a slightly cooler temperature than the rest of Thailand and it is rich in all crops - including the infamous hashish and opium. The green valleys, intersected with rivers of the North of Thailand are in close proximity to Burma, Laos and south-west of China.

Expedition to East Malaysia 2012

By: Martin Malik
Malaysia is divided into eastern and western, and I assure that someone who was only in one part should not think that he knows all Malaysia well. Both parts are different not only because of nature but also economically and culturally. Traveling from West Malaysia to East Malaysia is a completely new adventure.

Expedition to Cambodia 2012

By: Martin Malik
The first sightseeing place is the national pride of Cambodia, the Angkor Wat. This temple is the largest religious building in the world and strikes not only with its size but also with extremely massive construction and shape. The building consists of a pyramid with five towers, the highest of which is 65 meters. Angkor Wat is surrounded by a moat, walls and corridors.

Singapore travel guide 2012

By: Martin Malik
Kampong Glam is a Muslim district but it has nothing to do with the multi-"cultural" society in Europe. Kampong Glam is an elegant district with buildings classified as the cultural heritage of Singapore, and there is the Sultan Mosque which is the largest in Singapore. Next to it there is also Istana Kampong Glam - the seat of the former Sultan of Singapore.

South Thailand 2011

By: Martin Malik
In the Gulf of Thailand I went to five islands: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Ma, Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan. The Islands of the Gulf of Thailand are the most popular and the most visited region Thailand where one can still taste paradise at a reasonable price. In a few words that part of the world could be best described as: beaches, palm trees, warm sea, diving, coral reefs, delicious food and picturesque sunsets.

Expedition to Vietnam 2012

By: Martin Malik
Vietnam is a country of mopeds. There are only 2 million cars there but there are around 20 million mopeds. By 2020 their number will reach 36 million and many of them are also potential taxis. I travelled Vietnam on a moped without a driving license. Vietnam is a very interesting country. There are spectacular temples, nice beaches, chaotic traffic, and sense of humor with a bit of communist rudeness.
